What is all of this?

...is an initiative on the brink of academia, performance art and (public) philosophy in Amsterdam. It is a four day event staging lectures, performances, interventions and discussions. The biennial brings together artists, researchers, theatre professionals, students, activists and anyone interested in rethinking artistic intervention in its contemporary context.

Expect: 120 selected contributions, four invited speakers (Nikita Dhawan, Silvia Bottiroli, Thomas Bellinck and Thijs Lijster), a number of initiatives around the 50th anniversary of Aktie Tomaat and programmes organized in collaboration with our partners.

Who organises all of this? Well...

INTERVENTION! INTOXICATION? is organised by Stichting Performance Philosophy Amsterdam and commisioned by the international research network Performance Philosophy. We collaborate with the Department of Theatre Studies University of Amsterdam, and Flemish Cultural Centre De Brakke Grond.

Performance Philosophy

Performance Philosophy (2012) is an international research network for the field of Performance Philosophy. The network is open to all researchers concerned with the relationship between performance & philosophy.

Performance Philosophy is concerned with all aspects of the relationship between philosophy and performance, including the ideas of “performance as philosophy” and “philosophy as performance”.

Ricarda Franzen is a dramaturg. She teaches at University of Amsterdam and ArtEZ, in Arnhem. Ricarda developed the first concept of the biennial and has therefore been involved with it since its beginning, co-wrote the call for contributions, was part of the selection committee and now works mainly on the program and dramaturgy, contact with invited speakers and contributors, part of the local context program and the embedding of the conference in the university.

Ivana Ivkovic is a philosopher. She currently teaches at the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten. Ivana has been involved with the biennial since the beginning, co-wrote the call for contributions, was part of the selection committee and now works mainly on securing funding, thinking through the program, developing the website, relations with media and production.

Sophie van Balen is a philosopher. She teaches regularly at University of Amsterdam and writes a monthly close reading for Filosofie Magazine. Sophie has been involved with the biennial since the beginning, co-wrote the call for contributions and now works mainly on thinking through the program and local context embedding, developing the website, relations with media and production.

Thore Walch is exchange student from Berlin on the International Dramaturgy programme at the University of Amsterdam and intern with the Performance Philosophy team since december 2018. Thore works on many things, but mainly the dramaturgy and program, contact with contributors on texts and technical details, and production.

Jasmijn van Wijnen is a dramaturgy student. Jasmijn has been supporting the Performance Philosophy team with her great minutes during the selection process and throughout with research regarding practicalities, embedding in the university, reservations of rooms, looking into the practical possibilities of any wild idea the team had along the way.

Iris Spanbroek is a dramaturg. Iris worked on the preparations for the Open Spaces in January 2019 and took on the organisational part of the Aktie Tomaat listening sessions at Bijzondere Collecties as part of the local context programme.

Julia van der Putten is student of International Dramaturgy. She took on the production of everything that has to do with the University Theatre building.

Suzanne Knip-Mooij is a theatre and performance studies scholar and philosopher. Suzanne was involved with the biennial since its beginning, developed the concept for the biennial together with Ricarda Franzen and set up the organising team. She co-wrote the call for contributions and served as a member of the selection committee.
