Artists are not fond of asking money for their work. Those two things are diametrically opposed to one another. But in a capitalist system, one can only value something in terms of money. There is really no other way to truly stimulate the artists to continue their work - artists need money to make art. The artists involved in the making of KONT Magazine think that money is a poor means of expressing value. Can they, together with colleguaes and akin initiatives, set up an alternative system instead of selling a product? How to eliminate the ambiguous threshold between art and market, between the makers and culture-consumers? How can the audience become more involved in a project and in the energy needed to make something?

Griet Menschaert, together with the other makers of KONT Magazine, wants to explore these borders.

KONT Magazine is an annual NL/EN bookazine, a paper platform boosting collaborative cross-disciplinary creations in the surroundings of Eindhoven. In carefully composed teams, artists, designers, writers, dancers, photographers... create new work for the magazine. https://kontmagazine.nl

Griet Menschaert's (BE/NL) works cross over between arts, communication, journalism and literature. She makes texts, drawings, performances, publications, exhibitions, meetings and operates solo as well as collaborative.

She has a great fascination for the way its context influences the human being.

Since 2016, she is Chief Curator of KONT magazine, an annual publication with exclusive contributions of inspiring usually unknown people of all ages and disciplines.
